    Al Balad – Marble Arch

Modern Arabic Identity for a High-Traffic London Restaurant

    OVERVIEW

Al Balad Marble Arch needed an interior that honoured Arabic culture while functioning flawlessly in one of London’s busiest dining locations. The goal was to create a warm, atmospheric space rich in detail, branding, and texture without compromising the speed and efficiency required for a constantly full restaurant.

    Design Challenge

Two major challenges defined the project:

An intricate ceiling design inspired by Arabic patterns, which required precision engineering and careful integration with lighting and ventilation.
Operational flow, as the restaurant is extremely busy and demanded a layout that supports staff movement, quick turnover, and clear customer pathways.
The space had to be beautiful, resilient, and highly practical — all at once.

    Design Approach

We built the concept around a dark terracotta palette, beautiful decorative tiles, and the signature Arabic-inspired ceiling feature that became the focal point of the restaurant.

    Key strategies included:
    • Intricate ceiling detailing, engineered to work with existing services while delivering a sculptural visual impact
    • Durable tilework with traditional geometric influence, designed for high footfall
    • Optimised layout to improve service flow, reduce bottlenecks, and support a busy operation
    • Brand-first colour and material choices to create a unified identity
    • Layered lighting to soften the terracotta tones and create an intimate dining atmosphere
    • High-performance materials selected specifically for busy hospitality environments
    Operational Improvements

The redesign did more than improve aesthetics it solved key functional issues:

    • Clearer circulation paths for staff during peak hours
    • Better table distribution to maximise covers while maintaining comfort
    • Efficient lighting and electrical planning integrated into the ceiling design
    • Strategic storage and back-of-house planning to speed up service

    Outcome

The final result is a restaurant that looks culturally rich and visually striking, led by its signature ceiling and warm terracotta tones yet performs perfectly under heavy daily traffic. Al Balad Marble Arch now feels authentic, cohesive, and operationally seamless.
